The words "Sustainability" and "ESG" are increasingly being seen in the media, and I feel that the words themselves are becoming common. On the other hand, while various initiatives are progressing rapidly in many fields, when we are asked "What is sustainability?", it seems that it is still difficult to point out specific contents due to the breadth of the concept. Particularly when looking at corporate sustainable management, although there are general guidance and frameworks, there is no correct way of thinking, therefore, the thinking of individual company greatly varies.

I feel that the important thing for companies in this situation is to thoroughly think how they should aim for medium- to long-term management, which end up being the company's vision and the basis of "sustainable management".

Even in just the past few years, the external environment has changed significantly. Various unprecedented events have occurred, such as the international situation, the Japanese economy, natural disasters, and the spread of epidemics, etc. And depending on the events, things demanded/requested by society have been changed each time. In this environment where "unprecedented" events continue to occur frequently, it is difficult to predict the future, and to respond in a way that can later be said to be "certainly correct." This makes us think about what kind of response we should take as a company now and in the future.
Important things for the companies in these situations might be their attitude, and the way of thinking from a medium- to long-term perspective that each individual company has as mentioned above. I believe that responding in accordance with the events that occur at the time having a company's philosophy, vision, and beliefs as its core, could be a part of "sustainable management."
