Environmental Certification and Assessment

Acquisition of "Green Star" Rating in "GRESB" (highest rank)

GRESB is an annual benchmark established primarily by major European pension funds groups leading the United Nations - supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) in 2009 which measures environmental, social, and governance (“ESG”) consideration for actual assets including real estate portfolio and infrastructure etc. AEON REIT Investment Corporation has received a “Green Star” rating for the 4 consecutive years, in the 2019 Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (“GRESB”) (real estate sector) Evaluation.

Inclusion in MSCI Japan ESG Select Leaders Index

MSCI Inc. has announced that it will include the AEON REIT Investment Corporation in the MSCI Japan ESG Select Leaders Index (the "Index") from July 3, 2017.

The Index is designed to target companies in the "MSCI Japan IMI Top 500 Index" that have high "Environmental", "Social" and "Governance" (ESG) profile relative to their sector peers. Furthermore, the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) announced that it has selected the Index for their ESG investment strategy.

Favorable Evaluation on Environmental Considerations Obtained from Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation

AEON REIT Investment Corporation has received an "A" grade from Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation ("SMBC") in recognition of its commitment to environmentally aware initiatives in asset management, according to SMBC's funding program based on an evaluation of environmental considerations.

Acquisition of DBJ Green Building Certification

The certification recognizes, via a scoring model originally developed by DBJ, the “green buildings” with the consciousness to environment and social demands from stakeholders, —essential in today’s real estate market.

Acquisition of Assessment Certification in CASBEE

CASBEE is a system for comprehensively assessing and ranking the environmental performance of buildings with regard to aspects such as the enhancement of environmental quality and performance including indoor comfort and consideration for the landscape, on top of the aspect of environmental consideration such as energy saving and the use of materials and equipment with a lower environmental burden.

AEON MALL Kasai-Hojo earned a high level, "Gold," because it received a quite high evaluation for "the policy and implementation of sustainable management," "the sustainable utilization of site," "the energy and air" and "the risk management."
Specific recognition was given to the following points: (1) the establishment of Aeon Group's group-wide environmental policy, and the initiatives carried out by all members of Aeon Group such as performance management that tackles energy consumption and communication with stakeholders; (2) the greening of roof-tops and premises and initiatives to maintain and improve local parkland and grass parking; (3) ongoing initiatives for detailed energy optimization such as the establishment of sub meters and user manuals for measuring energy in operations, the placement of operational management personnel, and conducting periodic inspection and maintenance; (4) ongoing efforts to reduce electric power through proactive investment in post-construction works such as installing roof-top solar panels and converting to LED indirect lighting; and (5) using experiences gained from providing foods to local communities at Aeon Group stores at the time of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake to improve BCP, BCM and disaster preventive policy, such as improving disaster resilience of buildings and fulfilling the role of providing facilities that retain essentials in times of emergencies.

"Best of the Best Sustainable Design Award" of the International Council of Shopping Centers

AEON LakeTown received the "Best of the Best Sustainable Design Award," which is bestowed by the International Council of Shopping Centers, which has around 60,000 members including developers and owners of commercial facilities in 80 countries around the world, to a shopping center with the best sustainability (environment and environmental sustainability) in the design and construction of the shopping center, as the first shopping center to receive the award in Japan.
AEON LakeTown was highly valued as a superior shopping center without peer for its introduction of eco-friendly equipment, including solar panels, a hybrid gas system, and rapid charging stations for electric vehicles installed in its shopping center, as well as for initiatives such as holding numerous environmental events including an eco-art exhibition.
